The Food
When the owner of a restaurant is also the chef, it is a good bet that the food is consistently well prepared. That is especially true of Buon Giorno, Calgary’s cucina Italiana. Chef Gabrille Battistessa’s specialities are classic Italian pastas, veal and chicken selections. His seafood dishes are also popular.
The Place
Buon Giorno, which seats about 120, began life as a pizza and beer joint in the ’60s and has been attracting the same loyal patrons 40 years ever since. While the layout has changed little, it has evolved into a cozy, intimate restaurant with that well-worn patina of a favourite locals restaurant. Along with the Italian Mediterranean style atmosphere comes boisterous, friendly service. It is very popular, both lunchtime and weekend evenings. Reservations are recommended. |
